The Four Great Cities

[ The Four Great Cities | Other Locations ]

JaJarp is made up of four main city-states, each with their own rulers, laws and primary ways of life - Grenielle, Hilsh, Fru and Cachies.

Grenielle

Grenielle is the largest of all the four great cities and is also the most prosperous in terms of agriculture. Indeed, Grenielle is most famous for its fertile soil, which, combined with its tropical climate and feats in agricultural technology, are responsible for the city¡¦s vast and lush vegetation. Its inhabitants, the Grens, are a proud race, especially when it comes to their expertise of the land. They spend most of their time working in their fields and gardens, or selling the fresh produce they yield all year round, although they also take the time to celebrate harvest time and other occasions.

The people of Grenielle are ruled by a royal family and most of the royal treasury goes to maintaining the quality of the land and developing agricultural technology. Because of this, Grenielle does not have a strong army, and suffered greatly during the civil war against Saries, the city sector closest to the Lac Tap. At that time, the sector of Saries was seeking independence from Grenielle because it felt it was not being cared for enough, especially after the collapse of multiple Lac tunnels which, in turn, damaged the quality of the soil. Grenielle tried its best to retain it, but eventually lost Saries to the Cachs, who promised the people of Saries protection and care.

Hilsh

The city of Hilsh is located to the north of Grenielle. It is the most old-fashioned city in terms of technology but is also the most advanced when it comes to magic. It is surrounded by a circular stonewall embedded with ancient spells designed to protect the city against those who intend to destroy its peace. Warriors trained in magic spells also regularly patrol the walls, especially at night, while the city’s sages are scattered throughout the city offices and academies, either finding new ways to master magic or handing over their knowledge to the younger generations.

Aside from their magical expertise and various potions, the inhabitants of Hilsh, called the Hilshers, are also known for their wisdom. They constantly seek knowledge, and are therefore, more open to new ideas and outsiders. They are ruled by a king with an advisory council of the city¡¦s best warriors and sages, all who combine their individual strengths to ensure the city¡¦s peace and prosperity.

The climate in Hilsh is divided into two seasons ¡V a crisp autumn and a cold winter ¡V with a chilly evening breeze all year round.

Fru

Known as the ‘Water City’, Fru is located at the Southwestern corner of the continent where it is filled with swamps, lakes and rivers, and enjoys a long coastline. The people of Fru have not changed very much since the days before the discovery of the Lac or the establishment of the Lac Tap. They focus their magic and technology on catching fish, harvesting aquatic plants and building boats and ships all year round. In fact, the people of Fru, also known as the Fru, were the ones who built the ship used during the great expedition which led to the historical discovery of the Lac.

For the most part of the year, the Fru enjoy a wet climate with lots of rainfall, but occasionally experience dry spells.

Cachies

Cachies is known as the ¡¥Melting Pot¡¦ of JaJarp with different city sectors named after the other three cities. Most of its inhabitants also hail from the other three cities, resulting in diverse races and trades within the city. Indeed, some of the citizens of Cachies, called the Cachs, are experts in magic or science like the Hilshers, while some are skilled in fishing and tilling the soil, like the Grens and the Fru. Because of this diversity, the main thrust of Cachies is in research and technology, making them the most technologically advanced.

Originally, Cachies was simply known as Cac. However, it changed its name after acquiring the sector of Saries from neighboring Grenielle as a sign of its commitment to the welfare and progress of the said sector.

The city of Cachies enjoys a diverse climate of five seasons ¡V winter, spring, summer, autumn and twilight gaze, a short yet dreaded period of cold and crisp mornings, very humid afternoons and long, icy nights.
