History of JaJarp

The Early Settlements

No one knows for sure how or when exactly the continent of JaJarp came into being, only that its first inhabitants were groups of nomads who made their homes in villages of mud and straw huts throughout the land roughly eight centuries ago. These early villages would later evolve into larger, independent settlements and great cities, but in the early years, they depended on each other to survive, trading minerals, food and services. Over time, some of the villages specialized in their own skills and learned new crafts to rise above the others. Those who failed to keep up were forced to merge with other villages or perish.

The Discovery of the Lac

In the decades that followed, countless discoveries were made – some small, some significant enough but none as surprising or as important as the discovery of the Lac, a creamy black-freckled ocean of molten goo under the earth. This discovery was made by a joint expedition team, which was initially formed with the purpose of charting JaJarp in detail for a universal encyclopedia over 150 years ago. What they accomplished was even more valuable.

Several experiments showed that the Lac was a good source of energy and it was not long before extensive mining and pipe work began in order to channel Lac into the hearts of the cities. This, however, proved disastrous as the tunnels kept on collapsing, damaging the landscape and claiming hundreds of lives, leaving the city rulers of JaJarp with no other choice than to find a better way to make the Lac accessible to all.

They did. Four years after the discovery of the Lac, the Lac Tap was formed – a seemingly infinite lake of Lac located in the middle of the four major cities. Finally, the Lac was accessible to most of JaJarp’s citizenry, and in just a span of a century, it would fuel the dawn of a new civilization, and the rise of four great cities – Grenielle, Hilsh, Fru and Cac (or Cachies).
